Aspen Heights: Redefining affordable housing in Saskatoon
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) recently highlighted Aspen Heights in Saskatoon as a shining example of innovative and sustainable affordable housing. This 56-unit townhouse development, completed in 2022 by the NAHC, blends sustainability, energy efficiency, and community-building to create rental homes for families and individuals. With 30% of its units reserved for low-income households, including single-parent households and those with special needs, Aspen Heights is setting a new standard in housing.
Each unit is equipped with energy-saving features such as extra thick walls, high-quality insulation, triple-pane windows, and air source heat pumps, which keep utility costs low for residents.
FCM’s support of Aspen Heights was instrumental in helping the NAHC pursue these energy efficiency upgrades in addition to delivering on housing affordability goals. Aspen Heights exemplifies what’s possible when municipalities are equipped to tackle today’s housing challenges with forward-thinking solutions.
